Limescale

Having high levels of lime in your water is the same as having hard water. Hard water depends on dissolved calcium and magnesium salts in the water.

What is limescale?

Limescale occurs in the form of bicarbonates which, even when moderately heated, form carbonate coatings - so-called paving stones - in pipe systems, water heaters, machines, pans and on porcelain. When you wash, the detergent combines with these hardeners and produces insoluble salts - so-called lime soaps - which lead to increased detergent consumption and make the laundry hard and rough.

How do I know if I have limescale in my water?

Signs of lime / hard water are that you easily get white coatings on sanitary ware, sink, glass, etc. Hard water also causes shampoo and detergent to foam poorly.

Is it dangerous to drink water with lime?

No, it is not dangerous to drink water with a lot of lime in / hard water. It is when using hard water in, for example, washing machines, dishwashers and other household appliances that problems arise as the coatings shorten the life of the machines and impair their function.

Bluewater Purifiers removes limescale from your water.

Do Bluewater purifiers remove limescale from water?

Yes they do! Since both magnesium and calcium molecules are to big to pass through our membranes, we remove limescale. You will however need to descale our membranes periodically to remove the limescale from the machine, otherwise the membrane will clog up. You can find how to descale our products here:
