Nitrite (mostly sodium nitrite) is widely used throughout chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
What is nitrite?
Nitrite can be due to the influence of pollution but can also be formed from ammonium in pipes and filters. It is also found naturally in wells with lack of oxygen in the water.
What level is acceptable?
The regulated levels will always shift between different countries and decision makers. In Sweden, the Swedish EPA gives a water remark at levels above 0,1 mg/l and marks it unfit to drink at levels above 0,5 mg/l.
Is it dangerous to drink water with nitrite in it?
If you have nitrite in your water, DO NOT give it to children under 1 year of age due to some risk of methemoglobinemia (impaired blood oxygen uptake). This condition is very uncommon and the amounts of nitrite we normally ingest are far below the amounts that have been shown to cause methemoglobinemia.
Bluewater machines remove over 97% of nitrite in your water.
Do Bluewater machines remove nitrite?
Yes, Bluewater removes over 97% of nitrite in your water!
